Character Description
Is a soldier trained in precision shooting over a long distance, has the skills of observing and masking. A Sharpshooter’s armament consists mainly of a sniper rifle, a specially selected weapon equipped with an optical sight, night vision device or other sight allowing accurate shooting over long distances. The task of a marksman on the battlefield is to eliminate important targets that appear in a short space of time. Those can be enemy snipers, advisors, heavy weapons support (machine guns, cannons, mortars), crews of armored vehicles damaged on the battlefield, commanders. Designated Defense Marksman must lead the way in preparing a mission plan, ensuring observation, tracking and precise risk reduction in the near, medium and long-range. Sniper missions include managing intelligence information they gather during reconnaissance, target acquisition and impact feedback for air strikes and artillery, assisting employed combat force with accurate fire support and counter-sniper tactics, killing enemy commanders, selecting targets of opportunity, and even destruction of military equipment, which tend to require use of anti-materiel rifles in the larger calibers such as the .50 BMG, like the Barrett M82, McMillan Tac-50, and Denel NTW-20.

Special Abilities
The Designated Marksman bridges the gap between standard rifleman and long-range sniper, providing precision fire within the squad:
Precision Engagement:
- Extended Range: Effective engagement 300-800m
- Target Elimination: Neutralize high-value targets (enemy leaders, specialists, machine gunners)
- First Shot Accuracy: Superior accuracy at range compared to assault rifles
- Penetration: DMR rounds can penetrate light cover and body armor more effectively
Reconnaissance & Observation:
- Overwatch: Provide security and observation for squad movements
- Scout Role: Feed tactical intelligence to Squad Leader
- Target Designation: Identify and mark priority threats
- Counter-Sniper: Detect and engage enemy snipers/marksmen
Support Fire:
- Bipod Deployment: Stabilized shooting position for maximum accuracy
- Suppression: Accurate fire pins enemy more effectively than spray
- Defensive Anchor: Hold flanks or overwatch positions
Advantages
- Long-Range Precision: Most accurate squad role at 300-800m
- High-Value Target Elimination: Can remove enemy specialists and leaders
- Penetration Power: DMR rounds defeat cover and armor better than rifles
- Observation Tools: Rangefinder and optics provide enhanced battlefield awareness
- Versatile Range: Effective from medium to long range
- Squad Integration: Unlike snipers, works directly with squad
- Quick Follow-Up Shots: Semi-auto allows rapid engagement of multiple targets
Disadvantages
- Limited Ammunition:
- Only 160-200 rounds (vs 240-300 for Rifleman)
- 20-round magazines deplete quickly in sustained fire
- Cannot waste ammunition on suppression
- Poor Close Combat:
- DMR is long and unwieldy in CQB
- Slow handling in buildings and tight spaces
- Must rely on sidearm for close encounters
- Weight Penalty:
- 10% slower movement than Rifleman
- DMR and ammunition is heavier than standard rifle
- Weapon Handling:
- Slower ADS time than assault rifles
- Longer weapon makes it harder to maneuver in cover
- Position Dependency:
- Most effective from static, covered positions
- Needs range to exploit weapon advantages
- Less effective in close/urban environments
- Exposure Time:
- Precision shooting requires exposure to aim
- Longer time on target than spray-and-pray
- Squad Pace Conflict:
- Works best at distance while squad may need to push forward
- Can fall behind during rapid advances
- Ammunition Management: Cannot share ammo with most squad members (different caliber)
- No Fragmentation Grenades: Limited ability to clear rooms or bunkers
