Anti-Tank (AT) Specialist:
- Vehicle Destruction: Engage and destroy enemy armor (tanks, IFVs, APCs)
- Fortification Busting: Clear bunkers and fortified positions
- Fire-and-Forget (Javelin): Top-attack missiles that guide themselves
- Unguided (RPG/SMAW): Direct-fire rockets for close-range engagement
- Building Demolition: Destroy structures and create breaches
Anti-Air (AA) Specialist:
- Air Denial: Engage helicopters and low-flying aircraft
- Heat-Seeking: Fire-and-forget infrared guided missiles
- Area Denial: Force enemy aircraft to avoid area of operations
- Transport Interdiction: Prevent enemy air assault and resupply
Tactical Employment:
- Ambush Positions: Set up kill zones for enemy armor columns
- Overwatch: Cover squad advances against vehicle threats
- Defense Coordination: Coordinate with Squad Leader on target priority
- Buddy System: Often paired with Rifleman assistant for protection
Advantages
- Vehicle Lethality: Only infantry role that can reliably kill heavy armor
- Air Defense: Only infantry defense against helicopters and aircraft
- Strategic Impact: Single soldier can eliminate multi-million dollar assets
- Psychological Effect: Presence deters enemy armor and air use
- Fortification Breaching: Can destroy bunkers and structures
- Long Range (AT): Some systems effective beyond 2000m (Javelin)
Disadvantages
- Severe Weight Penalty:
- 25-30% slower movement speed than Rifleman
- 40% slower sprint speed
- Launcher system is extremely heavy (15-25kg loaded)
- Very limited stamina - exhausts rapidly
- Cannot vault obstacles while carrying launcher
- Limited Ammunition:
- Only 2-3 rockets/missiles total
- Each shot must count - no room for error
- Cannot resupply from squad - must return to FOB/supply point
- May need to drop launcher after expending ammunition
- Poor Infantry Combat:
- Reduced rifle ammunition (6 vs 8-10 mags)
- Launcher makes you vulnerable in infantry fights
- Cannot effectively engage in close combat while carrying launcher
- Must rely on squad for infantry protection
- Exposure Risk:
- Long acquisition and lock-on time for guided missiles (5-10 seconds)
- Backblast reveals position to enemy
- Must expose yourself to acquire targets
- Vulnerable during reload (10-15 seconds)
- Specialized Role:
- Useless without armored or air targets
- Limited contribution to infantry firefights
- Cannot use launcher in close quarters (backblast danger)
- Technical Requirements:
- Guided systems require line of sight for lock-on (AA)
- IR jammers and flares can defeat missiles
- Some systems have minimum engagement ranges
- High-Value Target: Enemy prioritizes killing AT/AA specialists
- Backblast Zone: Cannot fire from enclosed spaces (danger to friendly forces)
- Buddy Dependence: Needs squad protection to survive and employ weapon effectively
